I am very sorry to hear about your experience, these types of themes sometimes seem complicated at first as time goes on you get familiar with them. It seems as they are very responsive to the comments replying within 24hrs. With regards to speed use the p3 profiler plugin(https://wordpress.org/plugins/p3-profiler/) to check what’s slowing your site down. Then consider WP-rocket.me to improve your site speed. I don’t know who you host with but take that into consideration.
